Gender, Fashion Style and Name Ideas:

My website and magazine will cover female’s fashion. I have chosen this because it’s something I can relate to. The fashion style I will cover in both my magazine and website is the most recent trends; I chose this because again, it’s something I can relate to and it’s easier to research and most popular at this particular time. When researching names for my magazine and website, I have decided on the name, “Elegance”. I think this particular title suggests sophistication, beauty and positivity.

Colour Scheme:

When researching 4 of the largest fashion companies in the world; Glamour, Elle, Vogue and Cosmopolitan, I found that their magazine front cover and website’s homepage colour scheme depending on the model, season and subject matter – like them, I will follow this process and decide my colour scheme when I have worked these out. With this in mind, I defiantly want to use the colour black as it pairs up with any other colour and it’s sophisticated.

Choice of Model:

When deciding on which model to use for the front cover of my magazine and website; I decided on Kristen Stewart. I chose Kristen because she is known in the fashion world for having a quirky sense of style; this is something I can relate to more than the latest trends.

Cover Line Ideas:

My Cover Line for Elegance will be "Your Essential Spring Wardrobe". I have chosen this because as the issue will be published in Spring; this will get readers interested to make sure they have all the latest trends.

Masthead Design Ideas:

Like Elle, on my masthead, I aim to advertise my current issue and the next issue to be released, this will then bring in more readers of those who just visit the website, and previous readers will hopefully be intrigued by the next issue. I have decided to use simple colours, such as, white, grey, silver and black. Along with these basic colours, I will use pale shades of purple, red and blue. For the font, I have chosen, “Georgia”, “Cambria” and “Times New Roman”. I have chosen these fonts because, like the title, they suggest sophistication and beauty.

How I Use The Internet

The term "3G" stands for "3rd Generation Mobile Telecommunications". "3G" is a generation of standards for mobile telecommunication and mobile phones services, that fulfill International Mobile Telecommunications-2000 (IMT-2000) specifications. The main function of this, it to allow Internet connection without the use of a modem. In addition to this, later releases of "3G" also provide a mobile broadband which allows the user to connect to a modem within their house.

At this present moment, I do not own a "3G" mobile phone as I rarely take interest in the model of phone I have. With this in mind, I do have friends which own this particular generation of phone.

"3G" is used by the public when consumers buy mobile phones that have been upgraded to "3G" standards; for example, the iPhone 3G and 3GS that was released in 2008 through Apple. In comparison to "2G" models; "3G" mobile phones receive and download data much faster. Since then, many mobile phone models have been upgraded to "4G"; again, for example, the iPhone 4 - released by Apple. The main difference between "3G" and "4G" is the Frequency Band which, on the "3G" models is 1.8 - 2.5 GHz, whereas on the "4G" models, it's improved to 2 - 8 GHz. Along with this, the Data Rate has been upgraded from up to 2 Mbps ("3G") to 20 Mbps ("4G"). 

Corporations would use the "3G" - or "4G" - features as a selling-point for their products. Many of the features each of these generation of mobile phone standards provide, would appeal to many consumers that have an interest in this area. Also, there is room for improvement, say, a 5th Generation. This again, would be a big selling-point for that company - especially, if the features are something completely new and convenient for all consumers.

"HTTP" (Hypertext Transfer Protocol):

"HTTP" is the Internet's foundation of data communication. Also, it is a networking protocol for hypermedia, distributed and collaborative information systems.

"WAP" (Wireless Application Protocol):

"WAP" is used when connecting to the Internet over a wireless mobile device, for example the web browser on a mobile phone. It was the first type of Internet access for mobile devices; since then, there has been 2G, 3G etc.

"GSM" (Global System For Mobile Communications):

European Telecommunications Standards Institute has developed a standard set (GSM) to describe the technologies of 2G digital cellular networks. There are five different cell sizes in a GSM network – macro, micro, pico, femto and umbrella cells. The GSM networks operate in different frequency ranges with most 2G operating in the 900 MHz or 1,800 MHz bands.

"MMS" (Multimedia Messaging Service):

An "MMS" is used when sending a text message that contains a piece of media; such as, a video or photograph. When sending, the MMS messages are delivered in a completely different way from SMS. The message is sent in a similar way to that of a MIME e-mail. The message is then sent. If the receiver’s phone is MMS compatible, the content is then saved in a storage sever with a HTTP front-end. If not, the message is delivered to a web based service where it can be viewed from a normal browser.

"GPRS" (General Packet Radio Service):

"GPRS" is a mobile data service that is packet oriented that is on the 2G and 3G cellular communication system's GSM.

"Bluetooth":

"Bluetooth" is used when exchanging media between wireless mobile devices over a short distance. It uses short-wavelength radio transmissions in the ISM band from 2400–2480 MHz with high levels of security. It was created by Ericsson in 1994 and was originally thought of as an alternative to RS-232 data cables.

"ADSL" (Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line):

"ADSL" is a type of digital subscriber line technology that provides, over copper telephone lines, a faster data transmission.

"Broadband" (Broadband Internet Access):

"Broadband" is a connection to the Internet that has a high data rate. In computer use, there is a simple line code that transmits one type of signal using a full bandwidth. In comparison, the dial-up Internet is the slowest and lest expensive of them all. A dial-up connection allows you to connect to the Internet using a 56k modem and it dials up a phone number provided by your personal IPS and connects you to the Internet.

"VoIP" (Voice over Internet Protocol):

"VoIP" is used when transferring voice communications over the Internet. Since the first VoIP protocol, the H.323, the newer, less complex ones are increasingly limited to carrying existing long-haul network traffic.

Last week, as a class, we looked a Memes. We researched; firstly, what they were and then how they were made, who made them, where they originated from and where they are published. After this, we had to pick our favorite Meme; I chose "Llamas With Hats". When we had chosen our favourite Meme, we had to write an explanation discussing the popularity of our Meme and it's legacy. In addition to this, we described the moment we first had an encounter with our chosen Meme and if it had been copied or parodied.

What is a Meme?

A Meme is something that spreads from person to person throughout a culture. This can be a behavior, style, idea, photograph or video. Usually, the piece of media or action has a comedical theme. 

Who creates them? and how are they created? 

A Meme can be created by anyone and in any way.

How are Memes published? and who publishes them?

Memes are generally published through the Internet, which creates a word-of-mouth effect and can be accessed by anyone - usually Memes are posted on sites such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter. Also, a Meme can be something that is passed through generations of a family which then spreads throughout the world. 

My favourite Meme is: "Llamas With Hats 1-4"

Write an explanation discussing your Meme's popularity as well as your personal thoughts on why it is so popular:

I believe that "Llamas With Hats" gains it's popularity from the "CAAAARRRRRLLLLL" that you just can't help saying when someone mentions "Llamas With Hats". Along with the most random of situations the two llamas find themselves in. My personal opinion is that the video draws you in at first with the fact that the Llamas, "Paul" and "Carl" have the ability to talk and wear hats. While watching the first episode you realise that "Carl" is a psycho and you want to watch more - there are 4 episodes made so far.

What is the legacy of your Meme? Has it been copied or parodied? How did you find out about it originally? 

I first found "Llamas With Hats" when I was at a friend's house scouring YouTube; he then showed me the episodes and I fell in love. Upon looking through YouTube, I haven't found any copies but some people have made videos including the characters "Paul" and "Carl". The first episode of  "Llamas With Hats" produced over 20 million views; "FilmCow" - the creator of this video and many more - has made another 3 episodes, hoping to follow this success. All 4 episodes has accumulated over 45 million views.
