DCM

Email:
Emails are free and allow the user to send messages, video, photographs, link etc. over the Internet using an electronic device that allows this. Although, the user must have an individual “email” address for example: blah@blah.com. Emails can be sent all over the world for free and as long as both users have a device with this application.

IM (Instant Messaging):
IM, similar to email, is free and used over the Internet. For example, Windows Live Messenger is a form of IM. Like email, IM’s can be sent all over the world for free and as long as both users have a device with this application.

SMS (Short Message Service):
SMS is another way of saying “texting”. This means short messages that are sent from phone to phone between multiple people. You can either send one message to one person, or one message to all of your contacts. Although, these cost your standard network rate, which is some cases could be free if the user is involved in a contract or tariff, or it could cost around 15p per SMS. To send across the world, usually cost the sender and the receiver money.

Bulletin Boards:
A bulletin board is a wall where loads of posters, advertisements, competitions, images etc. are put up for people to come and see. These are often featured on a corkboard in colleges and universities. At university, a bulletin board can be used to advertise activities. There is an online version, called “message boards”.

Discussion Forums:
These are where users log on and post up messages about a certain subject, then other users will comment on their post, still about the same subject. This then causes a conversation over the Internet about one subject with people all over the world – this service is free. A single conversation is called a “thread”. Also, in some cases, messages will have to be assessed by admins for approval.

Weblogs (Blogs):
A weblog, or just blog, is a personal journal, which is published over the Internet for anyone to look at. In the blog, you can let out personal feelings, your day-to-day activities and whatever you are thinking. This service is free and can be used on any electronic device that allows this feature.

Newsgroups:
Newsgroups are very similar to discussion forums and allow the many users to post messages from different locations within a Usenet.

Internet Telephony (Voice over Internet Protocol)
"VoIP" is used when transferring voice communications over the Internet.

Conferencing (Video & Audio):
Conferencing, both video and audio, is where 2 or more people are involved in a two-way video messaging across the globe. Each of the screens will show the other person they are speaking to and the user will be able to hear and see what they are doing. Business people generally use this.

Writing Copy Inspiration

Article:
Lulu Kennedy, founder of London Fashion Week event Fashion East, has received an MBE for services to the Fashion Industry in The Queen's New Year's Honours list. Kennedy, dubbed London's fashion godmother, has helped launch the careers of designers including Gareth Pugh, Roksanda Ilincic, Holly Fulton, Henry Holland and Marios Schwab.

"It was a total shock to hear I was getting an MBE - I still can't get my head around it," Kennedy told us this morning. "It's all very surreal, in a brilliant way! The unsung hero behind Fashion East is Ofer Zeloof, the owner of The Old Truman Brewery - it's his philanthropical support and of course our sponsor, Topshop, who have kept Fashion East going all these years. I get to do the fun bit, which is work with our incredible designers. They really are my inspiration and motivation and I love them all like crazy." and what about her day at the Palace?

"I'm not good at dressing formally, its not really my thing," she confessed. "Last time I went to 10 Downing Street I wore pyjamas! Silk Hawaiian print ones by Maarten van der Horst for Lulu & Co. If I could, I'd wear all of the Fashion East designers in one outfit to Buckingham Palace. It's going to be a nightmare choosing between them, so maybe I'll wear vintage instead."

Vogue cover girl Helena Bonham Carter, meanwhile, has been made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire for services to drama. The actress, who recently played The Queen Mother alongside Colin Firth in The King's Speech, dedicated the honour to her late father, who died in 2004.

"I am thrilled though not sure that I deserve it," she told the Press Association. "I am delighted to accept such a wonderful honour in his memory."

British-based designer Barbara Hulanicki, who founded legendary Sixties store Biba, received an OBE for services to fashion, whilst jewellery founders John and Annoushka Ayton, the couple behind Links of London, were awarded MBEs.

Shoe designer Emma Hope and Christopher Inman, the British Fashion Council's Honorary Treasurer, each received an OBE for services to the Fashion Industry, as did Donald John MacKay - founder of Luskentyre Harris Tweed - for services to the Harris Tweed Industry.

Sydney-born designer Marc Anthony Newson, husband of stylist and Vogue contributing editor Charlotte Stockdale, was honoured with a CBE for services to design - and fellow art world name Matthew Slotover, who co-founded the Frieze Art Fair, received an OBE for services to the Visual Arts.

In France, President Nicolas Sarkozy announced that Mexican actress Salma Hayek will become a Chevalier - or Knight - of the Legion of Honour for her services to the French Republic. Meanwhile her father-in-law, luxury businessman Francois Pinault, was made a Grand Officer of the Legion of Honour, France's highest civilian decoration, on New Year's Day.

Deep Blue Inspired Dress Range Review:

Collections from designers Michael Kors, Louis Vuitton and Derek Lam had a distinct oceanic feel this resort season as they showcased body con dresses and swimsuits reminiscent of all things scuba. Models with wet look, slicked back hair took to the catwalks donning skin-hugging dresses inspired by the deep blue.
The 1980s saw the first round of body con dresses appear on the runway with HervĂ© Leger’s figure hugging creations and it appears a new version is set to surface in the coming season. Spring/ Summer 2012 sees a reworked version of the body con hit the catwalk with scuba-inspired fabrics, cut-out pieces, mesh panels and oversized zips.
Boohoo.com, never one to miss a trend, have an array of scuba- inspired body con dresses in a range of bright hues that are sure to turn heads. Do like the catwalk and try wet-look hair, worn loosely or in a sleek pony tail with one of Boohoo’s ocean-inspired pieces and you are sure to look just enough scuba.
One thing is for sure, with Boohoo’s range of body con dresses in an eye-popping array of neon colours, all at £20 a piece, you can be certain you won’t miss the boat on this trend! See the exclusive preview of dresses here that will be online in January.

Angelina Jolie Interview:
Could Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt be set to add to their already magnificent brood of six? The actress revealed in a recent interview that she could indeed "end up pregnant" in the near future.

Jolie confessed that, while her and Pitt are not actively trying to conceive a child (TMI?), the possibility of us hearing the pitter-patter of Jolie-Pitt footsteps sometime soon is a real one.
"Nothing planned at the moment, but we just don't know," Jolie said. "I could end up pregnant."
She went on to talk about her relationship with Brad, gushing over how grateful she feels to have the actor in her life.
"I suppose what I've learned from Brad is to be able to have the kind of family whose happiness and well-being comes before your own," she said. "I'm very, very grateful to have such a loving family, and I wouldn't have that without him."
She also revealed recently that she feels lucky to be alive after "darker times" spent during her youth.
The actress spoke out during a 60 Minutes interview, in which she revealed that there were moments when she was younger that she thought could have killed her.
"I went through heavier, darker times and I survived them," she told presenter Bob Simon. "I didn't die young. So I am very lucky. There are other artists and people that didn't survive certain things."
"People can imagine that I did the most dangerous, and I did the worst... For many reasons, I shouldn't be here…You just... Too many times where you came close to too many dangerous things, too many chances taken too, too far."
However, Jolie stopped short of revealing exactly what those "dangerous" antics were. She also insisted that she's "still a bad girl", but prefers to use her sense of adventure in healthier ways these days.

"I still have that side of me... It's just in its place now... It belongs to (partner Brad Pitt) - or our adventures," she explained.
But it's not all doom and gloom for Angelina. Her new film, In The Land Of Blood And Honey, which marks her directorial debut, is set to win an award by the acclaimed Producers Guild Of America.
The Bosnian war film, which depicts the complex love story of a Serbian man who falls for a Muslim girl, was also written and co-produced by Jolie, and will be prized with the much sought-after Stanley Kramer Award in 2012.
"In The Land Of Blood And Honey is an extraordinary film that portrays a complex love story set against the terrors of the Bosnian War, especially towards women," Producers Guild presidents Hawk Koch and Mark Gordon said in a statement.
Released on 23 December 2011, it will also be eligible for possible Oscar nominations.

Treatment

Gender, Fashion Style and Name Ideas:
My website and magazine will cover female’s fashion. I have chosen this because it’s something I can relate to. The fashion style I will cover in both my magazine and website is the most recent trends; I chose this because again, it’s something I can relate to and it’s easier to research and most popular at this particular time. When researching names for my magazine and website, I have decided on the name, “Elegance”. I think this particular title suggests sophistication, beauty and positivity.

Colour Scheme:
When researching 4 of the largest fashion companies in the world; Glamour, Elle, Vogue and Cosmopolitan, I found that their magazine front cover and website’s homepage colour scheme depending on the model, season and subject matter – like them, I will follow this process and decide my colour scheme when I have worked these out. With this in mind, I defiantly want to use the colour black as it pairs up with any other colour and it’s sophisticated.

Choice of Model:
When deciding on which model to use for the front cover of my magazine and website; I decided on Kristen Stewart. I chose Kristen because she is known in the fashion world for having a quirky sense of style; this is something I can relate to more than the latest trends.

Cover Line Ideas:
My Cover Line for Elegance will be "Your Essential Spring Wardrobe". I have chosen this because as the issue will be published in Spring; this will get readers interested to make sure they have all the latest trends.

Masthead Design Ideas:
Like Elle, on my masthead, I aim to advertise my current issue and the next issue to be released, this will then bring in more readers of those who just visit the website, and previous readers will hopefully be intrigued by the next issue. I have decided to use simple colours, such as, white, grey, silver and black. Along with these basic colours, I will use pale shades of purple, red and blue. For the font, I have chosen, “Georgia”, “Cambria” and “Times New Roman”. I have chosen these fonts because, like the title, they suggest sophistication and beauty.

Advertisements:
I will feature advertisements (on my website) of major brands and companies within the fashion world; with this in mind, I will advertise major make-up and beauty companies. I have chosen to do this because these are subjects that the majority of my viewers will be interested in. These advertisements will then link to the homepage of the particular subject.
